Harem pants are a bummer. Aside from the fact that they’re sheer, which is extremely impractical and puzzling in its own right, they also call to mind that pervey scene in Aladdin where the subtext is that Jasmine is made to be Jafar’s sex slave (or something). That was an extremely unsettling part of an otherwise excellent movie. Harem pants are also a bummer because they are turning up a lot lately, on the likes of Naomi Campbell and Maggie Gyllenhal, which is portentous of more harem pants to come. You can now expect to see them paired with gladiator sandals on the kind of girl who considers herself a Carrie. Not a bummer: Turbans! Hilarious unbummer: Genie Day.
